The CEC Chairman met with the Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana

On September 13, 2023, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the RK Nurlan Abdirov met with the Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana Dr. Volker Frobarth.

During the meeting, the Head of the CEC noted the close cooperation between the organizations and emphasized that regular meetings with the leadership and representatives of the OSCE have become a good practice. Nurlan Abdirov also drew attention to the recently published final reports of the OSCE ODIHR Mission on observing the early presidential election of the Republic of Kazakhstan on November 20, 2022, and the early election of deputies to the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan on March 19, 2023. He also mentioned that the recommendations contained in these reports will be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the Expert Council at the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan on September 28 of this year.

The Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana was informed about the upcoming direct elections of akims of districts and cities of regional significance, which will be held in a pilot mode, the election of deputies of maslikhats to replace the retired ones, as well as the ongoing elections of rural akims in the Republic from July 25, 2021.

In addition, the parties discussed a number of issues in the context of preparation for the International Scientific and Practical Conference entitled “Constitutional Reform and Electoral System” dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the CEC of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the meeting, F.Frobart noted the OSCE's appreciation of its cooperation with the Central Election Commission of the RK and confirmed the readiness to continue cooperation and exchange of experience on electoral matters.

As a result of the meeting, it was agreed to further develop cooperation in studying the best international practices in the electoral sphere and expanding the dialog, including in the period between election campaigns.
