Central Election Commission registered Mazhilis Members to the
Parliament of the VIII convocation
On March 28, 2023, a meeting of the Central Election Commission on the issue of registration of Mazhilis Members to the Parliament of the VIII convocation was held under the chairmanship of Nurlan Abdirov.
The meeting was attended by elected Mazhilis Members to the Parliament and media representatives. The meeting was broadcast on the CEC website.
Opening the meeting, Nurlan Abdirov said that the early elections of MPs are completing a large electoral cycle that began with a nationwide vote in the republican referendum last June.
The new format for conducting elections has significantly expanded the opportunities for citizens to participate in the political process and has intensified the electoral sphere as a whole.
All 98 Mazhilis Members to the Parliament were elected on the basis of direct suffrage, that is, they were elected directly by citizens.
He also noted that in accordance with Article 24 of the Constitutional Law on the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the status of its Members,” the powers of an MP shall begin from the moment of his/her registration as a Member to the Parliament by the Central Election Commission.
CEC Secretary Mukhtar Yerman made a report on the registration of elected Mazhilis Members to the Parliament of the VIII convocation, who said that the Central Election Commission had developed draft relevant decisions on the registration of Mazhilis Members to the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan of the VIII convocation. Thus, in accordance with CEC resolutions, 98 Mazhilis Members to the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan of the VIII convocation were registered. Of these, 69 MPs are on the party lists of six registered political parties (the AMANAT party – 40, the Ak Zhol Democratic Party of Kazakhstan – 6, the Auyl party – 8, the People’s Party of Kazakhstan – 5, the Respublica party – 6 and the NSDP – 4 MPs) and 29 MPs elected from single-seat territorial constituencies.
CEC Chairman Nurlan Abdirov presented certificates and pins to the MPs, wishing them success and fruitful work for the benefit of the country in the highest representative body of the republic.
