On September 28-30, the CEC of the Republic of Kazakhstan conducts a
training course for representatives of the republican and regional media within
the framework of the upcoming presidential elections
From September 28 to 30, 2022, the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, on the basis of the Centre for Electoral Education, conducts a training course “The Electoral Process in the Republic of Kazakhstan: Theory and Practice” for representatives of the republican and regional media with the participation of 65 journalists.
The speakers from the Central Election Commission are Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan Konstantin Petrov, members of the Central Election Commission Sabila Mustafina, Anastassiya Schegortsova, Assylbek Smagulov, as well as staff members.
The training course is aimed at explaining to media representatives the specifics of preparing and holding presidential elections, the main stages of the current electoral campaign, the role of the media in information support of elections and election campaigning of presidential candidates, the role of fact-checking during electoral campaigns, the rights and obligations of journalists in the electoral process, international standards and principles of election coverage.
Participants of the workshop will also be familiarised with the issues of electoral education of participants in the electoral process, ensuring the electoral rights of persons with disabilities, state and non-state financing of presidential elections, legal liability for violation of electoral legislation and novelties introduced into the Constitutional Act “On Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan.”
According to the Plan for Electoral Education, this is one of 10 workshops of the Central Election Commission for participants in the electoral process, planned during the early elections of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, scheduled for November 20, 2022. Previously, the workshop was held on September 21-23 for representatives of youth organisations from all regions of the country. The next workshop of the CEC of the Republic of Kazakhstan is planned for October 5-7 this year for representatives of political parties registered in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
