of the first meeting of the Club of Young Voters
“Youth and Elections”
On September 23, 2022, the first meeting of the Club of Young Voters on the topic “Youth and Elections” was held at the Central Election Commission.
The club of young voters was created upon the initiative of Nurlan Abdirov, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as a consultative and advisory body under the Central Election Commission. The main goal of the Club is to attract the attention of youth to topical issues of the electoral process, to increase their electoral activity and legal culture.
Opening the meeting, Nurlan Abdirov noted that work with youth is a new vector of activity of the Central Election Commission.
“Elections are a very significant legal and socio-political process. The Constitution states that the people exercise power through a republican referendum and free elections. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the electoral culture of voters, in particular the youth. Because youth is our future, you are the New Kazakhstan,” the Chairman of the CEC of the Republic of Kazakhstan stressed.
An active and lively discussion took place on various areas of the electoral process, young voters received answers to all their questions. The participants noted the importance of increasing the legal literacy and electoral activity of young people, their participation in the electoral process.
Youth activist Olzhas Suleimenov shared his personal experience of participating in elections and the republican referendum.
Yelena Danilova spoke about the project “Strengthening the electoral culture and activity of the population.”
Dinara Saduakassova spoke about some results of research on the electoral activity of young people.
Concluding the meeting, Nurlan Abdirov called on the Club members to fruitful cooperation and dialogue.
“Your opinions and proposals on the widest range of issues of the electoral process are very important for us. We intend to work in the same open and constructive format. You are our future intelligentsia and I would be glad if the experience of communication in the Club could possibly help you become members of the Parliament, maslikhats, akims or members of the Central Election Commission,” the Chairman of the CEC of the Republic of Kazakhstan said.
The meeting of the Club was attended by leaders and activists of republican and regional youth organisations, employees of regional youth resource centres, youth committees of educational institutions, students, undergraduates and doctoral students of Astana universities.
