The Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a meeting on the results of the nomination of candidates to deputies of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan
On 13 July 2020, a meeting of the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held, at which election commissions of the oblasts, the capital and cities of national significance reported on the results of the nomination of candidates to deputies of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan by region.
During the meeting, Berik Imashev, Chairman of the Central Election Commission noted that «a total of 94 candidates to deputies of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan were nominated in the period from 13 June to 12 July 2020. For comparison in 2017 at regular Senate elections there were 89 nominated candidates, in 2014 - 88, in 2011 - 96».
Thus, in the last four election campaigns to the Upper House of Parliament as a result of nomination the average competition rate was more than five candidates per one Senator’s mandate.
This year the biggest number of candidates has been nominated in Almaty oblast - 9, in the city of Nur-Sultan - 8, in the city of Almaty - 7. The lowest number - 4 candidates in East Kazakhstan, Kostanay oblasts and in the city of Shymkent.
In the current elections to the Senate the number of citizens who used their right for self-nomination - 82 or 87 per cent (by comparison, in 2017- 92.1 per cent, in 2014 - 82.9 per cent and in 2011- 82.7 per cent). Maslikhats nominated 12 candidates (in 2017- 7 or 7.9 per cent).
Also Berik Imashev was noted the political activity of women in election campaigns: «among the nominated candidates there were 19 women (in 2017 - 13, in 2014 - 5, in 2011 - 6)».
The average age of candidates is 51.1 years (in 2017 - 51.9, in 2014- 54.1, in 2011 - 53.3). The youngest candidate is 30 years; the oldest among the applicants is 69 years.
By specialties: 29 - engineers, 20 - economists, 12 - teachers, 10 - lawyers, 10 - agricultural workers, 7 - doctors, 3 - journalists, 1 - political scientist, 1 - others.
Among the nominated candidates: 38 employees of commercial structures; 23 employees of state organizations, enterprises and institutions; 18 government employees; 9 representatives of public organizations; 2 not - working. 4 current senators have also nominated themselves.
Currently, the process of registration of candidates to deputies of the Senate is ongoing, which will last until July 23, since, in accordance with the legislation on elections, the election commissions together with state bodies are continuing to verify the authenticity of the documents submitted by the candidates.
As of 13 July, 62 candidates to deputies of the Senate had been registered by the election commissions of the oblasts, the capital and cities of national significance.
The electoral campaign is conducted in accordance with the electoral legislation and is subject to constant monitoring by the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
