National competition on electoral law and electoral process starts for students of Kazakhstani universities on May 24, 2019
The first round of the National Competition among students of Kazakhstani universities on electoral law and electoral process (hereinafter referred to as the National Competition), organized by the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the Year of Youth, takes place on May 24, 2019.
The National Competition is one of the stages of an interstate project aimed at increasing the electoral and legal literacy among students of universities of the CIS countries and dedicated to the International Day of Democracy (established by the UN General Assembly on September 15, 2007).
The winner of the National Competition will take part, as part of the CIS national team, in research debates among students, to be held by the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in St. Petersburg in September 2019.
The National Competition will have two rounds:
- the first round is an interactive quiz among students on issues of the electoral law and electoral process, and the selection of 10 students who scored maximum points;
- the second round is a debate tournament using video conferencing, during which three winners will be determined by the National Jury.
The main partners of the CEC of the Republic of Kazakhstan in conducting the National Competition are:
- International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of the IPA CIS Member States;
- association of legal entities “Association of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, which includes more than 80 national and regional universities;
- Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, which provided information and a communication platform for the first round of the National Competition.
The organizing committee and the National Jury consist of representatives from the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Association of Universities of Kazakhstan, representatives of the scientific and expert community in the field of constitutional law and electoral legislation.
Currently, 179 students representing 26 universities from all regions of Kazakhstan have been registered at the interactive platform of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The results of the competition will be published on the CEC website, where you can also get acquainted with the regulations of the competition and other organizational materials.
The project participants will be issued personal certificates in accordance with the results of the competition.
