Working visit of CEC member L. Suleimen to the city of Shymkent

On May 21, 2019, a training workshop for election organizers themed “Activities of election commissions during the preparation and conduct of the early election of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, scheduled for June 9, 2019” was held under the leadership of a member of the Central Election Commission (hereinafter - the CEC), Lyazzat Suleimen, in the building of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan in the city of Shymkent.

The workshop was attended by members of territorial election commissions, chairpersons, deputies and secretaries of 260 precinct election commissions, Director of the Shymkent branch of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a certified trainer on electoral training, the head of Akim’s Office of Shymkent, akims and heads of district administrations of Shymkent, representatives of local executive bodies and the media.

In total, 827 people participated in the training workshop.

A presentation was made by L. Suleimen, a member of the Central Election Commission, who elaborated on of the activities of election commissions both during the preparation of the election and on the election day.

L. Suleimen also emphasized that the activities of all election commissions are based on the collegiality, openness and publicity, and special attention is paid to strict compliance with the requirements of the current election legislation and professional development of election commission members.

Head of Akim’s Office of the city of Shymkent E. Alimkulov reported on the work done to compile voter lists, the measures taken for the material and technical equipment of polling stations, including the provision of conditions for persons with disabilities

Chairperson of the Shymkent City Election Commission Dauylbayev informed about the current state of the election campaign, the preparation of polling stations for the day of voting, and training of members of election commissions using the cascade method and the method of distance learning and testing.

Chief expert of the CEC Department for the organization of the election process, I. Berkimbai, made a report on the main activities of the precinct election commissions during the preparation and conduct of the election, talking more specifically about the correct completion of the protocol of the precinct election commission on the results of voting on June 9, 2019.

During the training workshop, participants asked questions about the progress of the main stages of the election campaign, the powers of election commissions to prepare and conduct elections, and to ensure the enforcement of the election legislation.

There were an active exchange of views and a discussion on the organization of work of election commissions.

Following the workshop, Lyazzat Suleimen, member of the Central Election Commission, met with the OSCE long-term observer Andrei Karbovsky.

The representatives of the Central Election Commission together with members of the Shymkent city TECs also visited polling stations to assist them in preparing for the election.
