According to the Constitutional Act of Republic of Kazakhstan « On Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan» elections of maslikhats` deputies instead of the left were held in 100 polling districts of 11 regions and in Almaty city on April 9, 2006.
14 regional, 15 city and 71 district maslikhats have been elected.
Generally 322 candidates have been nominated and 302 candidates were registered.
Average competition was more than 3 candidates to 1 mandate. Thus to 14 mandates of regional maslikhats` deputies 75 person applied (more than 5 person for 1 mandate). The biggest number of applicants for the deputy mandate (11 candidates) was in a polling district № 8 in Rudniy town of Kostanay region.
The general number of polling districts where the voting took place was 558.
The opportunity of choice of the way of voting (with the electronic electoral system or paper ballots) has been given to voters in 10 polling districts (three in Mangistau region, two in Karaganda and five in the North-Kazakhstan regions).
According to the preliminary data from 420423 voters included in a ballot list 233423 people took part in the voting or 55 % (presence of voters on the regular election of maslikhats` deputies in 2003 was 56.4 %). Lower than the normal republican level was the presence in Almaty city (12 %).
