On 8 August 2008 workshop on organization and conducting election campaign at elections of Senate deputies, appointed by Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on
4 October 2008, was held in Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Chairpersons and Secretaries of oblast, Astana and Almaty City election commissions, which according to norms of electoral legislation are the bodies responsible for ensuring conduction of elections of Senate deputies, and representatives of Prosecutor General, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance and National Bank were invited to take part at the workshop. Representatives of OSCE were also invited to the workshop.
The goal of this event was determination of top-priority objectives for election administration bodies and discussion of issues of organization and conduction of the forthcoming elections.
In the course of the workshop participants paid main attention to problems of law enforcement, coordination of joint activities by election commissions, state bodies and participants of electoral process on ensuring observance of norms of electoral legislation at all stages of election campaign.
There was exchange of opinions on issues directly associated with realization by oblast, Astana and Almaty city election commissions of their authorities on registration of candidates to Senate deputies and their proxies, preparation of polling stations, conduction of voting, summarizing results of voting and other aspects.
“The forthcoming elections are the last regular elections before our country will take the post of OSCE Chairman in 2010. Therefore the level of organizing election campaign must meet the high requirements and generally recognized international standards of democratic election” – CEC Chairman Mr. K. Turgankulov noted in his speech.
On the same day Press Center organized by Central Election Commission for the period of conduction of election campaign at elections of Senate deputies commenced its work.
