On September 4, 2008 the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan held session devoted to the outcomes of the nomination of candidates to Senate deputies.
According to CEC data in total from 2 August till 3 September 2008 eighty eight (88) candidates to Senate deputies were nominated in the Republic.
The largest number of candidates was nominated in South-Kazakhstan oblast and city of Almaty – correspondingly 10 candidates in each. 9 candidates were nominated in Astana city.
Six candidates in each were nominated in Aktobe, Zhambyl, Karaganda and Pavlodar oblasts; five candidates in each - in Mangystau and North-Kazakhstan oblasts; four in each - in Akmola, Atyrau, East-Kazakhstan, West-Kazakhstan and Kyzylorda oblasts; three candidates were nominated in Kostanay oblast and two candidates - in Almaty oblast.
Of all nominated candidates three candidates withdrew their candidacy on their own will. Two candidates have been withdrawn due to their incompatibility to the requirements of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In total during nomination period maslikhats have nominated 16 candidates and 72 citizens have taken advantage of the right to self-nomination.
There are six women among nominated candidates.
Distribution of candidates according to their age is the following: 2 candidates are of 30-35 years; 20 candidates – 36-45 years; 26 candidates – 46-55 years; 19 candidates – 56-60 years;
19 candidates – 61-65 years and 2 candidates are over 65 years.
By profession there are 41 engineers; 16 economists; 11 teachers; 8 lawyers; 2 politologists and 6 persons with other professions.
By occupation there are 8 acting Senate deputies; 37 employees are from the state bodies, organizations, enterprises and institutions; 37 employees are from private companies; 1 is an old pensioner and 5 are temporary unemployed persons.
By political party membership there are 30 members of PDP “Nur Otan”; 1 is a member of DPK “AK ZHOL”; 1 is a member of DPK “Adilet”, 1 is a member of public association “Ecological Union “Tabigat”; 32 persons are not members of political parties and 23 persons did not indicate their party membership.
To the date of September 3, 2008 34 candidates to Senate deputies have been registered.
Deadline for candidate registration is September 13, 2008. On September 14, 2008 all having been registered candidates will be able to proceed with pre-election campaign.
