On July 29, 2009 Deputy Chairman of The Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan V. Foos met Deputy Head of OSCE Center in Astana Ms. Jeannette Kloetzer. Political officer of the OSCE Center in Astana Mr. Andrew Offenbacher also took part in the meeting.
During the meeting there was exchange of opinions on the prospects of co-operation between CEC and OSCE Center in Astana on further improvements of electoral legislation of Kazakhstan in compliance with international standards for democratic elections as well as on training of election commission’s members and other election subjects.
“The formation of new election commissions is completed. 13 280 persons, representing roughly most of political parties, registered in the Republic, were elected in the election commissions of all levels. Therefore today training of elections organizers as well as explanation of innovations in the electoral legislation are considered as priorities in the activity of CEC. As a part of this work a joint program of the CEC and UNDP is implemented”, - noted Mr. V. Foos.
Ms. J. Kloetzer, in turn, expressed interest in conducting joint training sessions on election issues with the experts of OSCE/ODIHR. “OSCE Center attaches great importance to the work in the regions of Kazakhstan and experts from OSCE/ODIHR could take part in organized at local level joint activities aimed at improving legal culture of the participants of electoral process”, - noted Jeannette Kloetzer.
The parties agreed that in December 2009 experts from OSCE/ODIHR will be invited to the traditional workshop with the observers of Kazakhstan in the OSCE international election observation missions.
