NURLAN ABDIROV HOLDS BILATERAL MEETINGS WITH 

HEADS OF INTERNATIONAL OBSERVATION MISSIONS

Today, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Abdirov held a series of meetings with the heads of international observation missions who arrived in Kazakhstan to observe the elections of deputies of the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan, scheduled for 23 August 2026.

In particular, a meeting was held with the delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA), headed by Osman Mesten, Member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations.

The Chairman of the CEC also met with Igor Petrishenko, First Deputy Secretary General of the CIS, who arrived in Kazakhstan as Head of the CIS Election Observation Mission.

On the same day, Nurlan Abdirov discussed preparations for the elections with Midhun T.R., Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, who heads the SCO Election Observation Mission.

In the second half of the day, the Chairman of the CEC held substantive talks with members of the observation mission of the Organization of Turkic States, headed by Nuru Guliyev.

Nurlan Abdirov also met with the Coordinator and Head of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Observation Mission, Member of the Romanian Parliament Gabor Hajdu, and Head of the OSCE PA delegation, Member of the National Assembly of Slovenia Lucija Tacer Perlin.

During the talks, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission briefed the observers on the key provisions of the constitutional reform being implemented in Kazakhstan. Nurlan Abdirov emphasized that one of the key transformations was the transition to a unicameral Kurultai. In this regard, the upcoming elections are of particular importance, as they represent a crucial stage in implementing the new constitutional model and, for the first time, will establish the country’s supreme representative body under the renewed Constitution.

In turn, observers from TURKPA noted the significant reforms being carried out in Kazakhstan aimed at protecting citizens’ interests. They emphasized that they view Kazakhstan’s achievements as shared accomplishments of the entire Turkic world.

Observers from the CIS Mission highlighted the active, systematic, and methodical preparations for the elections, particularly in the regions. They stressed the importance of the ongoing efforts to create appropriate voting conditions at polling stations for persons with disabilities.

Observers from the SCO Mission spoke about the historic significance of the upcoming elections to the Kurultai. The head of the delegation assured that the monitoring would be conducted objectively and with respect for Kazakhstan’s sovereignty.

Members of the OTS Mission expressed confidence that the elections would be held at a high organizational level and would have a positive impact on the development of the region. The head of the delegation also emphasized that the new Constitution previously adopted in Kazakhstan marks an important step in the country’s development.

Members of the OSCE PA delegation also expressed their gratitude for the support provided in organizing the Mission’s work and noted the special role Kazakhstan plays in the Organization’s activities.
