On October 11, 2005 the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan O.Zhumabekov met with the US Congress delegation led by the US Congressman Darrell Issa.
The US delegation was comprised of the US Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, Officer of the US Sub-Committee on Energy and Resources Larry Brady, Officer of the US Committee on Government Reforms Frederic Hill, Counselor(energy issues) of the US Embassy to the Republic of Kazakhstan James Loveland and the US Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan John Ordway. The Chairman informed members of the US delegation about the main provisions of electoral legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and presidential election campaign in the Republic of Kazakhstan. In the course of the meeting the sides also discussed the issue of comparability of Kazakhstan electoral legislation provisions to international electoral standards.
On the same day the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan met with the correspondent of Washington Times and Christian Science Monitor newspapers, as well as New Republic magazine Michael Coleman, who was interested in developments on presidential election campaign, guarantees provided to the candidates as per the electoral legislation, as well as differences of electoral process in our country from election campaigns in Western countries.
The Chairman of the Central Election Commission noted that similar meetings would be conducted on a regular basis. They foster mutually beneficial cooperation with international and organizations, promote popularization of electoral legislation of our country as well as the objective and independent evaluation by international experts and observers.
